Ok, so am in college ryt, and UNI next summer & am thinking about going far, but now our community, parents and madrsah teachers are talking about how Islam does not allow women to travel alone -let alone- Live alone!! and all that makes sense to me but its really sad cause now my guilt is taking me over. I dont want to let down my parents and honestly i dont think i am going to be allowed to live far especially with my super strickt dad. So iv been looking at London universities and ive come across UCL (university College London) & i want to do philosophy and history & UCL is the 7th highest for philosophy which is really good but grrrr am just supper confused....

it is true that there are SOME scholars that say it is not ok for a woman to travel alone ... but as far as I know, there is no problem with you LIVING alone. Having said this, if your father is more the strict kind of person, he might still not want to let you go... Don't you have any family members / close friends your parents trust who live in London and where you could stay? Or maybe you could find a trustwothy (Muslim?) students dormitory. If I was in your shoes I would try to find a person your parents respect (somebody from the family? the mosque??) and try to see if he / she cannot convince them... Good luck inshaallah! but the matter is sorted alhamdullilah. i spoke to my dad & he said as long as it like an hour away its fyn, cause his a workaholic and we only get to spend tym on saturday's and he wants those saturdays to be able to come and visit me ect. soo yaah am sooo happy =]
